Da Nang: Getting there & away

AIR
During the American War, Danang had one of the busiest airports in the World. It still distinguishes itself by having one of Vietnam's three international airports Airlines around town:
Pacific Airlines ( 886 799 - 6 D Le Loi) Flights from Danang to Hong Kong.
Vietnam Airlines ( 821130 - 35 D Tran Phu) Connects Danang with destinations throughout Vietnam
BUS
The Danang intercity bus station (D Dien Bien Phu) is about 3.from the city centre in the direction
Of Hue. The efficient ticket office here is one of the most helpful in Vietnam, with some English spoken and prices clearly displayed.
Buses leave for Hue (22,000d, three hours), Hanoi (87,000d, 16 hours) and HCMC (102,000d 24 hours) regularly throughout the day.
There are services to Vientiane (US$25. 24 hours) departing at 3pm daily, but this is overpriced for what is a rickety old bus that you wouldn't choose to spend more than an hour on.
Regular buses to Hoi An (5000d, one hour) depart from a local bus station 200m away from the intercity bus station. For¬eigners tend to be overcharged,
CAR & MOTORBIKE
The simplest way to get to Hoi An (30km) is to hire a car for around USS10 from a local travel agency , or a motor-bike for around US$6 from one of the guys on the street corners. For a slightly higher fee you can ask the driver to stop off and wait for you while you visit Marble Mountains and China Beach.
You can also reach My Son by motorbike (USSI2) or car (USS35), with the option of being dropped off in Hoi An on the way hack"
Distances to major destinations from Danang include Hanoi (764km), Hue (108km) and HCMC (972km).
MINIBUS
Most travelers prefer to stay in Hoi An rather than Danang. and Hoi An has better minibus services. Try An Phu Tourist to hop aboard an open ticket bus heading to Hoi An or Hue. It will be a Hat US$2 in either direction.
TRAIN
Danang is served by all Reunification Ex-press trains and there are several trains daily to HCMC, Hanoi and points in between
Danang train station (D Hai Phongi is about 1.5krn from the city centre, at the northern end of D Hoang Hoa Tham. The train ride to Hue is short but sweet one of the best in the country. Watch your belonging as you pass through the pitch black tunnels.
