Notre Dame Cathedral (Dong Chua Cuu The) at 80 D Nguy en Hue is an impressive modem building combining the functional aspects of a European cathedral with traditional Vietnamese elements, including a disti nctly oriental spire At present, the huge cathedral, which was constructed between 1959 and 1962, has 1600 members. The two French-speaking priests hold daily masses at 5 am and 5 pm with an extra 7 am service on Sunday; ch ildren's catechism classes are also conducted on Sunday mornings. Visitors who find the front gate locked should ring the bell of the yellow building next door.
