There is a small bank in Sapa, but it doesn't do anything useful like handle foreign currency exchange. The nearest ATM is currently in Lao Cat. Most hotels accept US dollars, but expect a worse exchange rate than in Hanoi. Travellers cheques can also be changed at Royal Hotel and Victoria hotel, but command commission of around 5%
