SAPA: Getting There & Away
Sapa's proximity to the border region makes it a possible first or last stop for travellers crossing between Vietnam and China The gateway to Sapa is Lao Cai, 38km away on the Chinese border. Minibuses make the trip (about 1hours), but do not run on any particular schedule. However, the minibuses do wait in Lao Cai station for the train which arrives from Hanoi.
From Hanoi to Sapa: The total distance between Hanoi and Sapa is 380km Hanoi to Laocai = ~348km Laocai to Sapa = ~32km By train : take around 9 or 10 hours Day train : only hard seats Cost : ~ US$ 10 Night train : soft berths with AC ( 4 berths / 1cabin) Cost : US $25 Victoria and Vip Royal train are high standard Cost : from US$ 40 up US$ 270 By Local Bus: take 12hours cost : ~ US$10
Sapa to Laocai The price for the minibus averages about US$3 per Person from Laocai to Sapa Private car/bus Cost : ~ US$ 25
