Highlights: Hanoi – Ha Long Bay – Ninh Binh – Danang – Hoi An – Hue - Ho Chi Minh City – Mekong Delta

 

Day 1: Hanoi – Arrival
Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to hotel. The rest of the morning is free for rest or to begin exploring the city. In the afternoon, take a one-hour cyclo ride through the old quarter to enjoy the Hanoi’s beautiful late-afternoon colors and to visit a traditional Vietnamese “long house”.

Day 2: Hanoi - Sightseeing
A full day to explore Hanoi’s illustrious history. In the morning, visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex containing his mausoleum, former residence and the One Pillar Pagoda. Also visit the Temple of Literature. In the afternoon visit the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts, Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc Son Temple and the 36 streets of the Old Quarter.

Day 3: Hanoi – Halong Bay
Drive the 170km to Vietnam’s most spectacular natural wonder, Halong Bay.

Board a refurbished wooden sailing junk for a cruise through the limestone cliffs and emerald waters of Halong Bay. Drop anchor for the night near a remote island.

Day 4: Halong Bay – Boat Cruise – Water Puppet – Tam Coc
Spend a half-day cruising through new waters, stopping to visit colorful grottoes and swim near deserted beaches. In the afternoon proceed to a small village known as the birthplace of water puppetry in the Red River Delta. Enjoy tranquil scenes of rice fields and rural life before meeting the puppeteers who specialize in this ancient art form. Enjoy a water puppet performance, eat local delicacies and fly lanterns to bring good luck. Proceed to Tam Coc in late afternoon.

Day 5: Ninh Binh – Sightseeing - Hanoi
In the morning start cycling to Thung Nang valley through pleasant mountain scenery,

stopping to meet children at a kindergarten. Boat cruise to Thung Nang valley

and take a short walk before cruising back to dock. In the afternoon drive to Hanoi.

Day 6: Hanoi - Danang - Hoi An - Sightseeing
Morning flight to the central coastal city of Danang. Upon arrival, transfer to the ancient port town of Hoi An. En route, visit the Cham Museum, housing the world’s finest collection of Cham artwork. Upon arrival in Hoi An, embark on a walking tour of this charming town, visiting ancient merchants’ houses, a Hokkien temple, the 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge, and the colorful riverside market. Trip to one of Hoi An’s famous lantern workshops. Guests learn how the lanterns are made and then have a chance to create their own.

Day 7: Hoi An – Thanh Ha – Hue - Sightseeing
Morning boat cruise to Thanh Ha pottery village and visit a traditional ceramic workshop. Visitors have a chance to “get their hands dirty” making their own creations.

Depart Hoi An for the ancient capital of Hue. The three-hour drive hugs

the ocean coastline, winds through emerald-green paddy fields and climbs over the

dramatic Hai Van Mountain pass. Upon arrival in Hue, visit Dong Ba marlet before

driving to the elegant Thien Mu Pagoda to witness a daily Buddhist prayer recital

by the monks following a sunset cruise on the river. This evening dine at Tha Om

Garden House situated in Nha Ruong's, Hue garden with lotus ponds and trees.

Day 8: Hue–Sightseeing
Morning visit the Imperial Citadel, the spectacular Citadel is built on the same principles and design as Beijing's Forbidden Palace and contains a series of palaces, ornate halls, libraries, residences, and colleges. In the afternoon visit the elaborate tombs of Emperor Minh Mang and Tu Duc.

Day 9: Hue – Ho Chi Minh City - Sightseeing


Morning transfer to airport for flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel. In the afternoon for a half-day city tour including the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, Chinatown, Binh Tay Market and Thien Hau Temple.

A relaxing, end-of-day foot massage is optional.

Day 10: Ho Chi Minh City - Cu Chi Tunnels – Musical Repertoire
Drive to the remarkable Cu Chi tunnels outside Ho Chi Minh City.

During the war “Viet Cong” guerillas built the labyrinth of narrow tunnels

using them to hide during bombing raids and stage surprise attacks. In the

afternoon drive to visit a family of local artists. Learn about traditional Vietnamese

instruments through conversations with the artists and hear performances from

each family member. Guests then have the chance to try the instruments for

themselves - a memorable if somewhat noisy experience!
OVERNIGHT IN HO CHI MINH CITY. [Breakfast]

 

Day 11: Ho Chi Minh City - Ben Tre Homestay
Drive through the scenic Mekong Delta to My Tho and board a boat to an orchard garden. Take a horse-drawn cart to Quoi Son to visit a bee farm and float on a sampan through narrow, tree-lined canals. Continue to Tan Thach commune to visit a family-run enterprise making coconut candy. After lunch continue by boat to Phu Tuc village for the overnight stay. Try fishing whilst sightseeing on a late-afternoon rowboat trip. Enjoy the hospitality of a local family and have a traditional dinner. Afterwards take in a performance of traditional rural music. Spend the night in a local house in Ben Tre.
OVERNIGHT AT HOMESTAY IN BEN TRE. [Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner]

 

Day 12: Ben Tre - Cai Be Bartering - Ho Chi Minh City
Drive to Cai Be and take a boat to the floating market to practice the age-old art of bartering. Visitors will be supplied with sweets, sugar, milk, etc. which they can then barter for different kinds of local fruits. Along the way visit an authentic old house and a family-run business producing rice paper. Return to Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 13: Ho Chi Minh City - Departure
The morning is free for shopping before transfer to Tan Son Nhat International Airport for departure.
